Women’s economic security is at the center of the Maine Women’s Fund Mission. The economics show it is important to have women at all levels in the workplace. Companies that:

  • Focus on gender diversity contribute more to the economy – McKinsey reported in 2015 that the global economy could be between $12 trillion and $28 trillion larger in 2025 if gender gaps were reduced or eliminated.
  • Have women on boards and in management are more profitable – Morgan Stanley noted in May of 2016 that companies with better gender diversity had better financial performance and lower volatility.
  • Have more women in senior management - even when "more" is limited to a single woman - outperformed an entire sample of over 3,000 companies in terms of share price from 2009 through mid-2016 (International Monetary Fund, 2012)

Our panel of experts will share their approaches and successes through a lively and insightful panel discussion.  Specifically, we will hear from our speakers:

  • How they recruit, mentor, and promote women
  • How they create a workplace environment and culture to welcome and respect women
  • In what other ways do they invest in women specifically – training, leadership opportunity, financial investments (gender lens investing, social investing, etc.)
  • How they tell the story that highlights women as a driving force in their business’s success

Our lively audience. This exciting discussion involving so many knowledgeable voices in the community will draw an audience of senior- and mid-level professionals as well as executives of large and mid-size businesses looking to introduce greater investment in women as a part of their workplaces, or to improve it. It will also draw women in the workplace at all levels looking for answers and advice on how to break into their field with confidence. The audience is expected to be 250 – 300 strong.
