2019 Leadership Luncheon

We Celebrated 30 Years of Investing in the Power of Women and Girls

Thank you for a great event!

Our 2019 award winners and featured grantee for 2019:

Kimberley Acker Lipp, awardee, is the Executive Vice President of JMG, Maine’s leading student-centered nonprofit providing a continuum of support to students from middle school through college. JMG supports students as they transition from middle school to high school and on to post-secondary education, assisting students with degree attainment and providing connections to successful career pathways. JMG has provided support to over 50,000 students and now works with 10,000 Maine students annually. She has been shaping the future of Maine for over 15 years through her executive leadership role at JMG.
Gilda Nardone, awardee, is the Executive Director of New Ventures Maine, a frequent MWF grantee. Gilda has led New Ventures since its inception in 1978, guiding the organization from its start as the "Displaced Homemakers Program" to its current form as "New Ventures."  The organization’s own transitions closely follow the trajectory of working women over the past 40 years: from being “displaced” to becoming leaders and entrepreneurs.  Gilda's work seeds Maine's workforce and helps Maine women achieve economic security.
Susan Roche, awardee, is the Executive Director of the Immigrant Legal Advocacy Project (ILAP), Maine's only state-wide immigration legal services organization. Sue began working at ILAP in 2000, as its first employee, and has grown ILAP to meet the increasing demands for services.  A frequent MWF grantee,  ILAP now has a staff of more than 15 employees working to improve the legal status of immigrants throughout Maine and advocating for just and humane laws and policies to ensure Maine has a rich and diverse workforce.
Fowsia Musse is the Executive Director of Maine Community Integration and our featured grantee.  Fowsia will tell us about MCI's work  to empower immigrants and to connect them to the larger community by providing social, educational and community-building opportunities.  She has transformed MCI from a male-dominated organization to one with gender parity in only a few years. She is a vital part of Maine’s vibrant future.

Lisa DeSisto, Chief Executive Officer of MaineToday Media.
We are so lucky to have her talent here in Maine and are thrilled to have her as our emcee.
