Spotlight on Philanthropy
Join with other women from the Maine Women’s Fund community at the second annual Spotlight on Philanthropy on Saturday, March 6 at the Cram Alumni House (83 Federal Street) at Bowdoin College.
From from 9 am - 1 pm we will have an intentional conversation on one of the central tenets of the Maine Women’s Fund: Philanthropy. The event will build on the solid foundation established by over 30 women in attendance at the inaugural event last year. We invite women from our community to explore the role that women play as philanthropists. Specifically, we will delve into our perceptions of ourselves as philanthropist and will collectively create a vision for how we might step up and step into the role more fully. Tapping into the wisdom, energy and ideas of our community, we will gain a clearer understanding of the ways in which women can accelerate the rate of change through our roles as philanthropists.
The event also provides a forum for each of our regional advisory councils to present their 2 nominations for Sarah Orne Jewett and Samantha Smith awards. Community members will participate in a discussion around these candidates. At the conclusion of the meeting, each attending member will vote for her top candidate. Please join us to hear about dynamic women making change happen and have a voice in determining the 2010 award recipients.

Girl’s Grantmaking Initiative
From 1 - 5 pm, the Maine Women’s Fund and the National Girls Collaborative invite girls to help us give away grant money to help get more girls interested and active in science, technology, engineering, and math jobs and hobbies.
If you’re a girl in 8th-12th grade interested in helping grow programs that serve girls, we want you to apply to be on the girls’ grantmaking team! All girls who are chosen will participate in designing and putting into action a process to grant money to girls’ programs.
