New Girls Network
The New Girls Network is a program of the Maine Women’s Fund that gives young women a chance to build their professional and personal networks, explore social change philanthropy and enhance their leadership skills.
Geared to women in their 20s and 30s, the New Girls Network program begins with a nine-month exploration of philanthropy, leadership, activism and feminism. We are now accepting applications for the 2008-09 program, which begins in September. Click here to register.
The New Girls Network was created to help young women get more involved their communities and hone their leadership skills. Over the course of nine months, participants:
- Have multiple opportunities to build professional and personal networks among other New Girls, businesswomen, nonprofit professionals, corporate and community leaders, and philanthropists.
- Explore a variety of topics with peers and guest speakers, including: leading in the political and civic arenas; exploring feminism and its impact on our lives and culture and how to lead through volunteering and board service.
- Learn about social change philanthropy and the special fund created just for New Girls that is making grants to promote social change in Maine.
- Visit nonprofits in their communities and see the direct impact of social change grantmaking.
Our facilitators are New Girls who have gone through the program who seek to create and sustain a safe environment in which we share our stories, recognize opportunities and conceive and implement change.
Each incoming New Girl is asked to make a pledge between $250 to $500 to the Maine Women's Fund. This gift is tax-deductible and supports the running of the program. Alumnae are encouraged to support the Fund through charitable gifts in amounts of their choosing. Many New Girls support the New Girls Fund for Social Change, a fund that makes grants to modest-sized projects led by young and emerging women leaders.
Register and join the more than 200 women in communities throughout the state have joined this Network and are transforming the face of philanthropy in Maine.
