Portland
The Portland Regional Advisory Council of the Maine Women’s Fund is looking for a few outstanding women and girls in Maine! The Maine Women’s Fund is seeking nominees from Cumberland and York Counties for its annual Samantha Smith and Sarah Orne Jewett awards.
The Samantha Smith Award is given to a young woman (ages 12-21) from Maine who works to promote social changes in her community; inspires other girls to become active in supporting long-lasting change in Maine; uses her voice to boldly influence others; and understands the power of philanthropy to make a difference. Last year’s winner, Auburn High School student and activist, Alia Abdulahi, was selected because through her voice, character and actions, she represents all things bold. All nominees for the Samantha Smith award will also be considered for the Girls Rock! Awards. Presented by Waterville-based Hardy Girls Healthy Women, these awards honor girls ages 12-19 who are using their voices in bold and powerful ways to make Maine a better place for all girls. Winners of a Girls Rock! Award will receive recognition and a $250 savings bond at the March 30th-April 1st, 2012 Girls Rock! Weekend in Augusta. Please send your Samantha Smith Award nominees BY FEBRUARY 1, 2012 to Janice Rogers at (JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address).
The Sarah Orne Jewett Award is given to a Maine woman who exhibits the attributes of the women in Jewett’s works of fiction: true grit, independence, courage, humor, and discipline. Please send your Sarah Orne Jewett Award nominees BY FEBRUARY 1, 2012 to Kathryn Reid at (JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address).
